Our focus in July is to think about your alcohol consumption.  Thinking about your drinking but not sure where to start?  Here are some top tips for cutting back on your alcohol use:

  1. Set Clear, Personal Goals

Why are you doing this? Whether it’s health, savings, self-reflection, or supporting cancer charities, write it down. Journaling your intentions—and checking in daily—can keep you motivated when willpower runs low.

  1. Let People Know

Tell your friends, family, and co workers about your plan. It lowers the pressure when you’re out, and you might even inspire someone to join you. The more open you are, the more supported you’ll feel.

  1. Know your triggers

What typically drives you to drink – stress, boredom, social settings? Track your habits in a ‘trigger diary’ for a few days before you start. Once you spot patterns you can start planning better responses(Or avoid certain situations altogether).

  1. Plan fun, alcohol free activities.

Staying busy helps especially in the early days. Schedule things you enjoy that don’t revolve around alcohol: morning hikes, movie nights, new fitness classes or even just trying that new bakery down the street.

  1. Stock up on non-alcoholic drinks.

Don’t leave yourself hanging. Grab yourself some non-alcoholic beers or wines, sparkling waters, herbal teas, or mocktail ingredients. These alternatives can make social events feel more comfortable – and satisfy the need for a treat or ritual.
